We do not edit the tapes we receive. Each transfer is a complete copy of whatever is on the original tape.
Each tape is a direct transfer, so we cannot combine tapes. (1 Tape = 1 Transfer)
A Flash Drive, also referred to as a Thumb Drive, is a small storage device that we use to store the MP4 files. It is highly recommend that you transfer the files to your computer. Flash Drives can get lost or damaged, so be sure you backup somewhere safe.
We do keep a copy of the digital file for a limited time, but strongly recommend you back up your files as soon as you get home to protect your investment.
Transfers are a direct copy, so the footage will look the same as your originals when you drop them off. There is no way to improve the quality of the original. Tape based recording devices were great to have back in the day, but they had plenty of imperfections, which adds to the nostalgia of that form of media.
The tapes are returned to you in the same condition that they are received by Canton Video. We take special care to protect them when they are with us. The transfer process does not damage or alter the originals. (Tapes mailed to us are not returned unless you choose to pay the return shipping.)
We will not transfer originals for the following reasons: The original tape shows signs of damage or dirt, contains professionally copyrighted content, pornography, or explicit content of any kind. Canton Video reserves the right to review and deny any content deemed inappropriate or illegal.
DVDs are very convenient for viewing in your home DVD player. However, they are not considered a long term archiving format. DVDs can scratch and wear out over time. We want this to be the last time you ever transfer your memories which is why we go the extra mile to create digital files. Pretty soon, we will think of DVDs as a thing of the past.
We use a paper sleeve with a clear window.
The disc comes with a pre-printed face with lines that will allow you to write the title in with a thin permanent marker. This allows you to choose the best title for your transfers. We place a numbered sticker on the tape that corresponds to a number written on the DVD. The digital MP4 file will have the same number, which can easily be changed to the new title you give it.
We highly recommend you never place a paper label on the DVD. It can throw the sensors off balance and eventually damage the DVD player.
Go back to the home page and send us a message. We would be happy to look into your request.
